Saturday marks the beginning of Spring! A time to refresh, begin new projects, refocus on existing projects, and get organized. As the saying goes, “out with the old and in with the new” and that can apply to estate planning too.

We focus on cleaning the house and getting everything in order before summer, but it is also a great time to assess your estate plan. While housekeeping, you can review your important papers (both financial and legal) to see what needs to be updated and what should be shredded. Not only is it helpful to organize your financial records before the end of tax season but having an up-to-date list of assets will make it easier for your family to administer your estate when the time comes.

In reviewing your legal documents while cleaning, you can also take the opportunity to see if you need to make changes. These questions are a great starting point:

  • Are there changes in your family members or anyone you have listed in your estate plan?
    • Kids, grandkids, relatives, marriages, divorces, etc.
  • Have you reviewed your beneficiary designations?
  • Is your estate plan (trust) fully funded?
  • What do you like most about your current estate plan?
  • What do you not like about your current estate plan?

After reviewing your plan, you might find some of those changes need to be addressed. We invite you to contact us to assist in implementing these changes or to create a new plan. Our firm uses the most current estate planning documents, completely tailored to the needs and circumstances of you and your loved ones. Answering these questions starts the estate planning discussion. With your answers and our guidance, we believe our estate planning process will create a plan that works for you and your loved ones.

We invite you to contact us, (248) 409-0256, for a complementary review or initial consultation.
